Meet Guillermo Jaime! He is an Endeavor Entrepreneur and an Endeavor Mentor in Miami and Mexico. Through his company, Social Global Leaders (MIA), he is making it possible for poor families in rural and semi-urban Mexico to own a well-constructed home. Currently, two-thirds of all existing houses in Mexico are built informally by their owners, and many are overcrowded, unsafe structures with dirt floors and thatched roofs. Founded in 2009, MIA offers an alternative by organizing community teams to work together in progressive construction stages spread out over several years. To support these teams, Guillermo sells low-cost, high-quality materials, oversees gradual construction, and facilitates staggered micro-financing.
We recently sat down with him to talk about his work and his relationship with Endeavor.
Guillermo, as you know, Endeavor fosters a pay-it-forward mentality. Can you talk about your own entrepreneurial journey and your involvement with our organization?
Since I was selected as an Endeavor Entrepreneur in 2010 (Cairo, Egypt) my company has been growing at a CAGR of 59% . Endeavor has played a key role in this growth; the advisory board and the exposure were KSF for our growth. For me, it’s time to give back, for that reason I dedicate as much as I can to mentoring, share and promote entrepreneurship and help Endeavor’s mission on many levels.
What do you love most about Endeavor?
The team, the enthusiasm, and the mission. Endeavor has magic!
What advice would you give to an entrepreneur that has proven his/her business model but now wants to begin to scale?
Go Big or Go Home!
What’s the best advice that someone has given you? Can you talk about the importance of mentorship in your life?
I received a couple of quotes from some members of the board that really changed my mindset. For example: “Hope is not a strategy”, “Always take the shot”, “Grow or die”. As an entrepreneur, you always have to keep your ears and your eyes open, you must listen to the experience of the mentors but you must have the capacity to make your own decisions based on what you heard. Keep your eyes in the sky and your feet on the earth.
