We spoke with Endeavor Entrepreneur Otto Othman, co-founder and CEO of Pincho to learn about how they have been leaders in the restaurant industry in South Florida. His team reacted very quickly doing incredible initiatives and they have adapted very well during the crisis.
How has Pincho adapted during this crisis? Tell us how you started making changes.
Trust is everything: We decided to be a “source of strength” in the community and show our guests that we are here for them and that their wellbeing comes first. We quickly stepped up our game in terms of safety procedures and communicated to all of our guests everything we were doing to create a safe restaurant space.
Our team is our family: Knowing that during this difficult time filled with uncertainty, our team members needed some level of comfort. We reached out to them and told them that not only we would cover the cost for their food at work, but we would also pay for their kid’s food at home while schools are closed. We told them that if we did get shut down for 14 days due to the virus, we would deliver food for them and their families every day. We set up an emergency fund for the team as well. These are the times when we need to step up and live up to our core values. Not only we communicated this internally, but we also communicated this via our social media to encourage others to do the same. The response from guests and our team members was amazing. A very strong sense of love and gratitude towards our brand. You can feel the energy and the buy in from everyone. The sense of a united family ready to face whatever challenge was thrown their way. As Mark Cuban just recently said in an interview.. “How companies treat workers during this pandemic could define a brand for decades”. I believe we have forged a very strong bond with our team during this challenging time.
We also closed our dining rooms before anyone else told us to further protect our team and guests. We changed our business model to a take-out window.
How is Pincho supporting the local community in South Florida?
Hospital Workers and First Responders: We acted quickly and boldly by offering a 50% discount to all hospital workers and first responders in South Florida every day until further notice (it has been over 100 days and counting). We were the first brand in Miami to do so. The gesture quickly caught fire and went viral locally. Narcity.com which has 7 million monthly users wrote an article about us and you can read it here.. It has been truly phenomenal to see just how many people love PINCHO in Miami.
As of now we have given back over $250,000 in discounts to hospital workers/first responders and counting. Our team is super proud of this initiative. Again, we stepped up and lived up to our core values.
Big Brother Big Sister/Ronald McDonald House: We recognized that we need to support families in need during this time, so we began donating weekly meals to Big Brother Big Sister in Miami and to Ronald McDonald House.
We have also partnered up with the Miami Marlins to give back to First responders – we have served them with hundreds of meals together.
How can the community support you?
The community can support us by placing orders for themselves for pickup instead of delivery via our website.
