In celebration of Women’s History Month, Endeavor Miami is spotlighting the journeys of women entrepreneurs who are building, leading, and shaping industries with intention and resilience.

For Johanna Mikkola, entrepreneurship was not a predetermined path. It was something she grew into over time. Her story reflects the evolving nature of leadership, the power of community, and the courage it takes to build something without a clear blueprint.

Growing Into Entrepreneurship

Johanna’s earliest exposure to entrepreneurship came from her father, whose career gave her a firsthand look at both the freedom and uncertainty that come with building something of your own. For years, she envisioned a more traditional path. Over time, she realized that what energized her most was creating, building organizations, opening doors for others, and solving meaningful problems.

That realization led her and her husband to take a leap of faith in 2014, when they moved to Miami to launch Wyncode Academy. At the time, Miami’s tech ecosystem was still in its early stages, and coding bootcamps were far from mainstream. They were not just building a company. They were helping shape an entire community.

Without a clear playbook, the challenges were constant. They had to establish credibility, convince companies to hire bootcamp graduates, and navigate the highs and lows of startup life. These experiences became foundational, pushing Johanna to develop resilience, humility, and the ability to keep moving forward even when outcomes were uncertain.

Leading with Positivity and Connection

As her role evolved from founder to leader, Johanna discovered that success depended not only on strategy, but also on mindset and relationships.

She points to positivity as one of the most critical qualities in her journey. Not as a superficial trait, but as a deliberate daily practice. In the face of uncertainty and setbacks, maintaining optimism helped create stability for her team and kept momentum alive during difficult moments.

Equally important has been her ability to connect with people. Johanna believes strong teams are built on trust, transparency, and a shared sense of purpose. By fostering an environment where people feel supported and where honesty is valued, she has been able to cultivate collaboration and drive collective achievement.

Redefining What It Means to Lead

One of the most important lessons Johanna learned came from challenging her own assumptions about leadership. Early on, she believed that being a founder meant having all the answers. Experience taught her otherwise.

As she reflects, “Some of the best outcomes came when I could say to the team, ‘I don’t know. How do you think we could solve that?’”

That shift toward collaborative problem solving not only led to stronger solutions, but also empowered her team to take ownership and contribute meaningfully.

Over time, this evolution reshaped her understanding of resilience. It is not about controlling every outcome. It is about staying committed to a mission, adapting to change, and trusting that progress, even when unexpected, will continue to move you forward.

Today, Johanna serves as Co-CEO at Groupe EDH North America. She is an Endeavor Entrepreneur and an exited founder of Wyncode. She is also a Co-Founder of Mestari, where she supports couples in scaling as power partners, and a board member at Momentum Miami.

As we celebrate Women’s History Month, Johanna’s journey is a reminder that leadership is not about having all the answers. It is about building with intention, embracing uncertainty, and creating space for others to grow alongside you.
